Normandy; a child-friendly holiday destination? Fun and educational? Ideal toddler, baby holiday? Definitely!

Normandy is often overlooked when it comes to family holidays as its close proximity to the UK means that families are a little cautious about the weather. Normandy’s weather is similar to the UK but a few degrees warmer and somewhat drier (so actually perfect for babies and toddlers!). Summers are really pleasant and you don’t get the heaving crowds that come with the more touristy south of France. It is only a hop over the Channel and so can be the perfect family-holiday any time of the year.

Normandy is full of history, wonderful child-freindly beaches, beautiful countryside and gorgeous traditional child-friendly cottages and really is a fantastic location for family holidays and short breaks at any time of year.

Getting to Normandy couldn’t be easier: by train, plane or even boat. Long gone are the days of sickly ferry rides we all remember as a child. Brittany Ferries now use cruise ships and offer a full range of entertainment on board for all the family, from soft play and magicians to cinemas and silver service restaurants. So your holiday starts before you even arrive!

Our properties on Holiday Tots are all located within Basse Normandie (Lower Normandy). As always we keep our selection of child-friendly cottages small and there are some really special locations. For a seaside escape try one of the three converted cottages here: they have everything you could possibly imagine for toddlers and are located just 700m from the beach!

Or try one of three beautifully converted barns set adjacent to the beautiful Abbaye de la Lucerne. If you are looking for something quieter, nestled in the heart of the Normandy Bocage, is this beautifully-renovated three bedroom cottage. For larger accommodation try these lovely converted barns.

There is plenty to keep even the most active toddler/child entertained throughout Normandy other than  its beaches, seaside towns, lakes and forests. Here is a small taster:

Lower Normandy is famous for the DDay beaches and there are museums and historic sites of interest galore for both young and old. Try the museum at Arromanches: it has a working model of the ports towed over from England or see what it feels like to ride on a tank through the Normandy countryside at the Circular Cinema. Clamber over the bunkers at Longues-sur-Mer or enjoy a tour in a genuine American jeep.

Children will love Festyland a theme park that has plenty of rides for little ones as well as a few for adventurous parents. Cerza Zoo is a world-class safari park with animals to marvel at like rhinos and to pet in the petting area. And not forgetting Mont St. Michel! This is just a taster of what Normandy has to offer, there are zoos, mazes, pretty villages, play parks and more…

Each property on Holiday Tots has a ‘Top 10’ list of local activities, take a look for more ideas or feel free to contact us.

Go on, give Normandy a try J
