Treal Farm Cottages, the interview

Treal Farm holidays, two self-catering holiday cottages located only a short walk away from the Cornish coastline yet set in a stunning rural setting of Lizard Peninsula. The perfect location for a family holiday in Cornwall.

We asked owner Kevin about Treal Farm and it’s wonderful location so we could share it with you…

The interview...

A brief intro on you and your family…

My name is Kevin Bosustow and I have lived at Treal Farm all of my life. I live on the farm with my partner Nora and our children and our two dogs and cats. Originally a dairy farm, Treal Farm is now mainly rented out to neighbouring farmers and horse livery

Why did you decide to start your own holiday accommodation business?

Farming was becoming unprofitable and the dairy set up needed a massive investment. Cornwall had been given grant funding for diversification from the EU and with the help of this we decided to try to bring extra revenue into the business by converting our derelict barns into self catering accommodation to help sustain the business.

What was the toughest part about setting it up?

Selling the dairy herd to help finance the project.

What was the most memorable/enjoyable part of setting it up?

Seeing the barns develop from dilapidated buildings into the beautiful looking properties that they have become.

What couldn’t you live without and why?

My laptop. It’s the first thing I check in the morning and last thing at night for the businesses I run.

What does your average working day involve?

I usually start work at 7.30 on the laptop checking emails for the cottages and also for the internet business I run. I have a working breakfast where I answer any emails print off orders, deal with bookings and update my websites. I run an online plant nursery crosscommonnursery.co.uk so it’s then off to the nursery to deal with any orders and send them nationwide. I’m usually home around 5.30-6 and then have to spend another hour on the laptop again before relaxing for the evening.

What advice would you give to families wanting to holiday with you and why is your place so special?

Don’t be afraid to not pack too much equipment for the kids. We have lots of equipment from buggies, baby baths, toddlers’ steps, booster seats plus lots more and there is the play barn stacked full of toys, dressing up clothes and a ball pool to keep the little ones amused. With the little ones happy it makes for a relaxing holiday for the parents

If you could pick just two attractions/places to visit in your area what would they be?

Kynance Cove one of the most picturesque beaches in Cornwall

Helford River a beautiful area where you can sit and enjoy a drink in the Shipwrights Helford in stunning scenery.

Is there anything you would like to highlight that might be interesting to families with babies/toddlers/young children who are thinking of staying with you?

The cottages are based around families with young children. This makes it so much easier when coming on holiday as we can provide a lot of equipment making not just the holiday but the journey down in an un-cramped car more pleasurable

In one sentence can you explain what life is like where you live?

Life is pretty relaxed with beautiful countryside and coastlines just a short walk away, I love it.

Treal Farm...

Bull Pen cottage has two bedrooms and Hayloft has three bedrooms. The cottages are well equipped for families with little ones and dogs are also welcome. The cottages are great for two families looking for their own space or a smaller family looking to hire just the one. Courtyard setting, with gardens and an outdoor hot tub. Lots of toys and an indoor and outdoor play area.
