Summer Holiday In Spain 2020

Family-friendly villa in Spain on the Mar Menor Golf Resort

A few years ago, we enjoyed a family holiday in Murcia, Spain and while we were there, we met Jemma, the lovely owner of a family-friendly villa in the area. Ever since then we have been working with Jemma helping her to welcome families on holiday. Her villa is a bargain find for families, never overpriced and in a fab location. This year many of us missed out on our sunny escape abroad but Jemma was lucky enough to sneak in a break during the summer to her villa located within the Mar Menor Golf Resort, Spain.

We were intrigued to find out how her ‘Spanish Summer Experience’ was this year during such a strange time and so below is Jemma’s holiday experience…

Jemma's Summer Experience

‘’It was early July and after a few months of lockdown the flights had restarted, and I was on one of the first departures out of Manchester. Heading to the airport was a different feeling than normal I was looking forward about flying again and heading to the sun in Spain but a little nervous about the experience and the flight ahead. I arrived at the airport and it was so quiet, the duty free had only opened that day and the shops and bars were still preparing their protocols and not fully open. Masks were required throughout the airport and onboard the flight. To my surprise the flight was nearly full, many others wanting to get away to the sun. It was a calm flight and I just kept my mask on watched Netflix and before I knew it, I had landed in Murcia! Happy days, it was a long time coming. I was met at the airport with my car and with the Spanish tunes on the radio hit the road and headed to the Mar Menor Golf Resort.

Arriving at the resort was as wonderful as when I left it. The sun was shining, the resort gleaming and Villa Rigby looking as inviting as ever!

With bags left at the villa I decided to head out but where to first. I knew that the world was different, and I needed to make sure I did my best to stay safe. Spain had mandatory face masks rules everywhere you went. Whether it was walking to the bin the bars or walking to the beach. So, I headed off into Los Alcazares for some shopping and to have a look around to see what life was like. The supermarkets were busy with hand sanitisers stations as you walked in and masks were compulsory. I was pretty hot after walking from the car with my mask on and then around the supermarket but then I had to get used to it. The town itself was steady but you could tell it was nowhere near as busy as normal.

After a couple of days at the villa I headed to the beach near Los Narejos. Again, mask at the ready but as soon as I was on the beach, I could take it off. I had plenty of space around me and enjoyed a lovely day by the sea. It was the first of many.

The bars near the resorts all followed the protocols and you could take your mask off once you were at your table.

I ended staying for 2 months and wearing the mask was like 2nd nature. It was worth wearing it to actually have been away. I had so many days out and what I got from wearing my mask and social distancing made it all worthwhile. I felt safe and I would recommend a trip to the resort to anyone. It was perfect having all your own space in the villa and you really could spend all your days in the villa if you wanted.

Most of the swimming pools on the resort were open with a limit on the numbers of users and they are cleaned twice a day.

The return flight was a lot quieter due to the newly introduced FCO travel warnings which I am keeping a close eye on.

I was sad to have left but am counting the days until, I head out again.’’
