Air passenger duty abolished for children have you claimed

In December 2014 it was announced that, from May 2015, air passenger duty was to be abolished for children under the age of 12. It has been reported this week that many families still have not claimed their refund. So if you booked a flight for children aged two to eleven years old and are fliying after May 1st 2015 you just need to check if you paid the Air Passenger Duty for those children.

Some airlines have made automatic refunds but some are expecting travellers to make a claim.

You can read more about how to claim your Air Passenger Duty and more about how much you can claim at Money.co.uk

Money.co.uk say that there are a few airlines automatically refunding including British Airways, American Airlines and Thompson but other airlines are expecting customers to make the claim such as Easyjet and Ryanair via an online form or by contacting the relevant customer service centres.

Air passenger duty is charged on all passenger flights from the UK and the cost varies from £13 to £71. It has been abolished for 8 to 12 year olds travelling to and from the UK from May 1st and will also apply to those up to the age of 16 from 1st March 2016. Therefore, anyone under the age of 16 years old will be exempt from the charge.
