These eco-friendly domes are set in stunning woodland in Powys. The owners have worked very hard to make sure the domes are carefully sited around the woodland with plenty of space between them, so you get to enjoy the peacefulness and tranquillity of the area. You will be able to really chill and relax in front of the camp fire with your family and enjoy some back to basics cooking and entertaining, with the added bonus of returning to your warm dome, with soft furnishings, wood burner and cosy interior. The best of both worlds!
The domes have their own hot tub (for an extra charge £35 - £70) and their own private composting toilet facility. The showers in the woods are wood fuelled with a lovely canopy view of the trees above. They are steaming hot with plenty of room inside for changing. If you’re not up for showering outdoors there is an electric shower a short walk away.
As far as kitchens and eating are concerned, the open fire is probably the most popular way of cooking here, but you can also use the camp kitchens. There are 2 kitchens on the site and they are both equipped with traditional enamel crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils, cool boxes and ice packs and storage boxes for dried food. In the main kitchen there are 3 gas stoves and a Rayburn which is great for slow cooking. The stream side kitchen has gas stoves. No need to bring tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt or pepper, it’s all here and a pot of fresh herbs is also supplied in each kitchen, so help yourselves to parsley, mint, thyme or sage.
If you would like to use the open fires to cook, the owners supply a tripod to stand above the fire and a large pot or grill to hang from it. If you think you’d like a night off from preparing food how about ordering a one pot dish supplied with all the ingredients for a delicious camp fire meal.
Fresh spring water is provided from taps in the kitchen, shower and washroom for washing, washing up and cooking. Filtered water is also provided for drinking.
There is no electricity in the woods so you will be provided with 2 lanterns for your stay. There are charging points in the shower room, however you won’t get a phone signal here. So enjoy your time away from your busy working life and relax! You can access Wifi from the cottage if needed – just ask the owners to be connected.
There is loads of undercover space at the site so not to worry if there’s a bit of rain or if it’s very hot. There are also sheltered and undercover areas for the kids. The den building will be a hit with the little ones and stream dipping and scavenger hunting. They’ll love exploring the surroundings.
Children will also enjoy following the trail round the site to the feely boxes, swings and den and they can get involved with a game of boules, a cards competition or have fun in the cosy corner – an indoor arts and crafts area. And whilst the kids are socialising and enjoying their activities, there is a cosy lounge where guests can chill out, read by the wood-burner or just relax... an ideal place to spend time on a rainy day.
Property details
The deceptively spacious domes are 6m in diameter, 4m high and sit on a wooden platform. There is a comfy double or king size bed, and raised futon beds. All beds have memory foam toppers for extra warmth and comfort. You can fit a family of 4 in the domes comfortably and 5 or 6 if you don’t mind it being a little more cosy.
The interiors of the domes are delightful, with contemporary welsh blankets, fluffy rugs and sheepskin. You will find a wood burning stove really keeps you nice and warm at night too. There is a hanging chair with plenty of room to relax and enjoy your surroundings.
The hot tubs are eco tubs, so light a fire in the firebox submerged in the water and 4 hours later you will have glorious warm water. (Once you put the insulated lid back on, the water stays warm for hours). A great way to enjoy the night sky and star gazing. Hot tubs are between £35-£70 for the duration of your stay – so please enquire about these when you book. Also discuss with the owners which dome you would like to book as some are nearer to the communal areas than others and some are in more secluded spots of the woodland. You may wish to book the 2 domes that are slightly apart from the rest of the site – especially if you are holidaying with a large family or group of friends. They are sited near to the stream so you must keep an eye on the little ones if you choose one of these domes.
