Montegrand is a tiny Hamlet in a picture postcard setting and home to five child-friendly holiday cottages, perfectly located for exploring the Languedoc and the Midi-Pyrénées. Each cottage has its own private south-facing garden and terrace and there are 30 acres of grounds to explore.

The swimming pool is open from May to October and totally enclosed by a locking gate with child-proof handle. There is also a summer kitchen with BBQ, fridge freezer and plenty of shade.

Kids will love the resident miniature Shetland ponies, chickens, lambs and sheep, all needing a daily feed. There are several acres of woodland to explore and let’s not forget the fort, tipi with dressing up kit and plenty of space to kick a ball and more!

The best possible first family holiday!

We had our first holiday as a family with our 11-month-old daughter at Montengrand, and I don't think we could have made a better choice. We had a truly relaxing holiday, something we weren’t sure was possible with a 11-month-old and we would definitely go back!

Can’t wait to go back!

We had been looking for a family friendly holiday for a few years and not that keen on the all-inclusive options so thought we would give the Montengrand a go. Well what can we say, everything was just perfect the hosts, the accommodation, the toys, the farm animals, the pool, the night out chauffeured to and from with a babysitter, the pizza night all in all a perfect holiday that we will be booking again next year!

Win a dinner for two, babysitting and return transport for dinner.

The owners at Montengrand are offering guests who stay in May, June or early July the chance to be entered in a prize draw to win dinner for two at the amazing L’Abbaye-Château de Camon in the nearby village of Camon. They are also offering to arrange for babysitting and return transport to the restaurant, what a night off!

The area around Montengrand

Montengrand lies on the border of the Ariege and Aude departments in France, with rural forested hillsides and towering snow-capped Pyrenees. There is so much to do within Montengrand itself but if you want to head out there is plenty for everyone.

The region is steeped in history with Cathar Castles a plenty and there is a local lake for swimming. There are also easy cycle routes from the hamlet for all ages.

The two nearest towns are Mirepox and Camon. Mirepox is just five minutes by car, this bastide town was rebuilt in the 13th century following a flood and has a lovely market square and plenty of cafés and shops. There are summer events held here every year too including Les Fêtes Historiques in July with a costumed procession.

Camon is a charming village and is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located south-west of Carcassonne and ten minutes from Montengrand it is often referred to as ‘little Carcassonne’. The origins of the Abbey date back to 923 but as with Mirepox the village was destroyed by the floods in the 1200s. For flower lovers the annual Camon Rosé Festival takes place in the third week of May.
