The story behind Lanzarote Retreats as told by mum and owner Michelle

Finca de Arrieta was originally Tila and Michelle’s family home. They loved the location, right next to the beach. A local fishing village, with its charm and amazing local food and drink choices. They have 4 children and decided to restore some of the old farm buildings and expand into the holiday business. They noticed a need to offer holiday homes on Lanzarote that were a little different but ultimately child friendly. One of Michelle’s goals was to offer something ideal for parents and children alike. They have continued to grow from just the eco village, (Finca de Arrieta) to now also offering some fantastic sea front apartments and private villas.

Michelle says the trickiest part of getting Lanzarote Retreats to where it is today was trying to juggle work and children but having their first guests come over for Christmas many years ago now and having them love it made it all worthwhile. Her team at Lanzarote Retreats organise everything for their guests – VIP private airport transfers, meals deliveries and are happy to assist with any guest requests – she says that without her team, things would fall apart!

Michelle runs the reservation office, so she spends her day doing a lot of organising. Her oldest son also works with them as General Manager and he organises the day to day running of the holiday homes.

The Interview...

We asked Michelle what advice she would give to families wanting to visit Lanzarote Retreats

‘My advice would be to visit Lanzarote with an open mind. There is a lot of bad press for our beautiful island. Many of our guests are first timers to the island and fall in love with it. Lanzarote Retreats owns and maintains all of their own holiday homes. We pride ourselves on customer service and don’t just offer holiday accommodation, we offer a holiday experience!’

We asked Michelle about her 2 favourite attractions nearby:

She said that the amazing botanical cactus gardens is a must and ideal for families. It has been designed by local, world famous artist (Cesar Monrique). It is stunning and there are lots of places for children to explore

The Arrieta beach is one of the best on the island – It is a large bay so great for swimming. It has 2 restaurants on the beach and a quaint mojito bar made out of an old VW Camper!

Is there anything you would like to highlight that might be interesting to families with babies/toddlers/young children who are thinking of staying with you?

Lanzarote Retreats provides baby essentials to all our guests. If you choose one of the holiday homes that includes use of a car, a car seat is provided too ! Kids absolutely love the facilities at Finca de Arrieta which include a play park, sunken trampoline, collecting eggs from the hen house (Cluckingham Palace), feeding the rabbits, ducks and donkeys, the solar heated pool and not to forget, the Sunday night movie.

In one sentence...

In one sentence can you explain what life is like where you live?

At Lanzarote Retreats things are slow paced, people live like there are no worries in the world – pure bliss!
