Family Days Out in Cornwall: Perfect Activities for Toddlers and Young Children

Have you ever visited Cornwall before? It's one of my favourite places, and I try to go at least once a year! I know families get put off because of the long drive, but it really is worth it once you are there. Here’s a TOP TIP for traveling with your baby or toddler: load up on snacks and new games, and time your journey either during their nap time in the morning or leave late at night just before bed. It makes a difference.

Last year, I was lucky to go on a family holiday in Cornwall with my whole family. It was a fantastic multi-generational trip, and everyone was happy! Here are some of the family fun activities we enjoyed, perfect for a holiday in Cornwall with toddlers and babies:

Polzeath Beach

Cornwall is home to some of the best family-friendly beaches in the UK. My favourite is Polzeath Beach. It has ample parking (arrive early for a close spot), and it’s great for surfing, which keeps the older children and adults happy. Toddlers will love the rock pools for dipping their toes and exploring. With lifeguards on duty and nearby toilets, it’s a safe choice. The seaside village has a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, making it a perfect day out for everyone. Polzeath Beach is ideal for family days out in Cornwall.

Padstow

Padstow can get busy during high season, but it’s worth visiting. To avoid crowds, go in spring or early summer before school breaks up. Padstow is a pretty fishing village with quiet shops, restaurants, and cafes. You can even try crabbing here. It’s a lovely place to mill around with toddlers and babies, making it perfect for toddler days out in Cornwall.

Boat Over to Rock

Take a short ferry ride from Padstow to Rock. The journey is only about 10 minutes, but it’s fun for children who love being on a boat. Rock has a nice café, restaurant, and a lovely, dog-friendly beach. It’s a delightful adventure for the family and another great option for family days out with young children in Cornwall.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

The Lost Gardens of Heligan is a magical day out for the whole family. There’s so much to see and do, especially for toddlers. Explore Heligan’s Woodland walks, jungle, farm animals, and giant adventure head sculptures hidden in the gardens. There’s also an insect hotel and wild play area for children. It’s a magical, pretty place you must visit and is ideal for family days out in Cornwall.

Cycle the Camel Trail

Lastly, cycle or walk the Camel Trail—whatever your heart desires. You can hire bikes from either Padstow or Wadebridge, depending on your location. It’s a flat cycle along the estuary and is quite pleasant. You can even hire cycles with trailers for the tots! This activity is great for toddler days out in Cornwall.

So there you have it—five fun things to do in Cornwall with a toddler or baby in tow! If you need somewhere to stay, head over to our lovely collection of holiday accommodations in Cornwall. There's a variety of farm stays and cottages to choose from.

I will be back again with more fun family days out with toddlers in Cornwall.
