ew rules for drivers hiring cars abroad

From 8th June 2015 only the photo card part of a driving licence will be valid. This means that the details usually found on the paper counterpart, like penalty points etc, will not be visible and so the laws for hiring a car abroad will change.

If you are going on holiday after the 8th June and hiring a car you will need to visit the DVLA website and collect a code that you can hand over to your hire company. You will need your driver license number and your national insurance number to generate the code**. You will be able to do this via the website, if you do not have access to the internet a telephone number will be in place.

**Please note that the DVLA have extended the time that the code is now valid, from 72 hours to a more respectible 21 days!
