Discover a charming, unspoiled English country setting on the serene private Osea Island, exclusively accessible to guests. Connected to the mainland by a twice-daily tidal causeway, this tranquil retreat is perfect for a family holiday or toddler-friendly getaway, offering a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Set around a picturesque willow pond, Osea Island features a variety of family-friendly cottages and apartments accommodating 2 to 14 people. Each property is filled with character and offers comfortable, stylish interiors.

At the heart of Osea Island, enjoy a clubhouse with a games room and lounge, overlooking expansive gardens with a heated swimming pool open from April to October.

Explore the island's amenities, including a carp lake, bike rentals, tennis courts, gym, and sauna—ensuring plenty of activities for all ages. While there are no cafes, restaurants, bars, or shops, catering options can be arranged for special occasions or family gatherings.

Osea Island spans 400 acres of wildlife and grassland, featuring nineteen holiday homes and 4 ½ miles of pristine beachfront. Accessible by car via a tidal causeway built by the Romans twice daily, with a pre-bookable water taxi available during high tides, Osea Island promises a peaceful family holiday immersed in natural beauty.

On Osea Island, there are 14 cottages and apartments situated within the village. Additionally, there are 4 other properties located directly on the beachfront.

Most of the properties on Osea Island are single-story cottages and apartments. However, there are larger properties that span two floors, which unfortunately cannot accommodate stairgates.

Osea is a tidal island and is accessible via a mile long road for a four hour period every 12 hours. Outside of these times access is via boat (river taxi which takes 8 minutes costs £60.00 each way and must be pre-arranged) or helicopter (London/ Battersea Heliport, 20 mins).

By Car:

As we are accessed by a tidal causeway, it's best to call us for exact directions and advice on the timings of your journey.

By Train:

Depart Liverpool Street station to Witham Station less than 50 minutes journey – taxi rank will take you to the island during low tide only – time approx. 15/20 mins not all taxis will cross tidal road - please ask when enquirying

By Helicopter:

Nearest air field is Battersea. 20 minutes

By Water Taxi: By arrangement only – Please arrange this direct with the water taxi prior to your arrival – details are provided in your welcome pack once you have booked your stay

There is a parking lot where you can leave your car. We can arrange a water taxi to bring you to the island. This must be pre-arranged: average cost of £60.00 for each way. (Seats up to 6)

Please be aware there is a four hour window by which the tides are low enough to cross over using the causeway by car. When making your reservation the tide times will be given to you to allow you the opportunity to come over by car.

If you miss the low tide, a water taxi can be arranged to pick you up but there will be a cost attached to this change of plans.

In normal circumstances you would have a regular check in and check out time. This does not apply on Osea and your check out time will correspond with the low tide times.

Maldon promenade park - 10mins - This park has an ornamental pond with swans and fountain, a water splash park, adventure playground with galleon, skateboard ramps, wildlife garden and kiosks serving drinks and snacks.
Colchester Zoo - 25mins – One of the country’s best zoos. It’s very child friendly with various play areas and a gift shop.
Southend - 45mins – With 7 miles of seafront and the longest pier in the world, Southend offers a fun day for all ages.
Marsh Farm - 35mins – Lots of farm animals to visit along with an outdoor play area for the little ones.
Tropical Wings - 35mins – Experience amazing free flying birds and butterflies and visit the children’s farm yard.
Go Bananas - 40mins – Indoor soft play area for children of all ages from 6months up
Colchester Castle - 25mins - There are regular family events, and plenty to occupy children from dressing up to stepping inside a recreated thatched roundhouse. Expert-led tours down into the creepy Roman vaults and up onto the panoramic Castle roof can be booked for a small additional charge, and take place regularly every day.
Lee Valley Park Farms - 1hour - Meet all the animals from cuddly sheep to the loveable meerkat family. Explore the fantastic indoor and outdoor adventure play areas where the kids can go whooshing down the slopes on our toboggan run.
